Audio Newbery
By popular request, here is a list of most of the Newbery Award winners, many of which are available on cassette, CD (links are to Amazon) or Audio Download (from Audible).
A quick warning about used tapes/CDs: Some third party or "used" sellers will list books rather than audio products where audio is indicated. Please contact the sellers to determine the actual product offered, unless specifically stated in the description, or buy new and be sure.
About the Newbery Award (from the ALA* website):
"The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children." Some books, especially those published after 1963, may include questionable content, including graphic descriptions, foul language, and "edgy" content. As with all unfamiliar books, listen before your child to determine suitability. Books we have read or heard, and loved, are marked with a . Some others we have read, and not cared for. Still others are awaiting our attention.
*(MacBeth's Opinion does not endorse the political agenda of the ALA)
How this page is organized:
The books are listed by date of award. Titles are links to the actual books, while CD and cassette editions, as well as audio to download, are linked by media type after the title. Please double check the media format before purchasing, to ensure satisfaction. Thanks!!
